Le pli du pli III

1993

Merri Jolivet

Painting

187 x 232 cm

"Le pli du pli III" is part of a series made in 1993. Each of the paintings contains the same basic image: two vertical strips that frame two other strips made up regularly overlapping rectangles. The same colours are also used, as well as the same graphic signs, which appear to combine ad libitum, exploring the infinite solutions possible within a clearly defined and limited field.

French painter.

This artist’s work is characterised by the repeated layers of transparent paint over a basis that remains unchanged. The patience, not unlike that of a weaver, makes the work a lasting and permanent piece, but one that displays infinite variation.
