Societe Generale renews its partnership with the Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art

From 19 September to 13 December 2026, the 18th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art invites visitors to “Passer d’un rêve à l’autre” (“Moving from one dream to another”). Curated by Catherine Nichols, this edition draws inspiration from Lyon’s traboules, the city’s emblematic passageways and places of circulation. It explores the concepts of transformation and exchange while examining the economy in its broadest sense: the organisation of material resources, modes of production and value creation, as well as the relationships and human dynamics that shape our societies.

In this context, the decision to lend and present Wilhelm Mundt’s Trashstone 334, a work from the Collection, fully reflects the themes explored by this edition. Since the late 1980s, the German artist has used waste and remnants from his studio, sometimes combined with personal objects, compacting them before covering them with several layers of resin and fibreglass. Meticulously sanded and polished, his sculptures, known as Trashstones, transform discarded materials into objects with a precious appearance. In doing so, they question the concepts of resources, transformation, value and valorisation that lie at the heart of the Biennale’s theme.
