In and Out of Wonderland: An Exhibition in Bucharest

From 5 November 2026 to 31 January 2027, Rezidența9 in Bucharest presents In and Out of Wonderland, an exhibition organised in partnership with BRD – Groupe Société Générale as part of the Génération! exhibition cycle.

Conceived with curator Julia Marchand, the exhibition explores adolescence as a space of transformation, where identities are formed and imagination allows us to reinvent our relationship with reality.

In and Out of Wonderland takes adolescence as its starting point, approaching it not simply as an age group, but as a mental and emotional space. This transitional period, shaped by experimentation, discovery and metamorphosis, becomes a prism through which to observe a world that is itself constantly changing.

Photography, painting, sculpture, installations and videos form a journey in which identities remain fluid and the boundaries between reality and imagination become blurred. The works presented explore different forms of transition: from abstraction to figuration, from the human to the hybrid, and from the physical world to digital realms.

The photographs by Elsa & Johanna stage identities that become roles and fictions. Jean-Baptiste Perrot transforms video game glitches into gateways to other realities, while Miruna Radovici imagines hybrid bodies and creatures. The portrait by Coco Amardeil and the sculptural figures by Françoise Pétrovitch evoke the fragility and tensions inherent in the process of transformation.

The visual and textual interventions of Jean-Michel Alberola, the abstract compositions of Olivier Mosset and the paintings of Charlotte Houette extend this reflection. Together, the works create a shifting landscape whose meanings evolve, mirroring identities in the process of being formed.

A special section of the exhibition is devoted to collective imagination. For Rezidența9, STOL Collective has developed a participatory installation inspired by a film made with twenty children during a four-day workshop. The exhibition space thus becomes a site of experimentation, shaped by narratives that are still unfolding.

The exhibition brings together the following artists:
Jean-Michel Alberola, Coco Amardeil, Charlotte Houette, Elsa & Johanna, Olivier Mosset, Jean-Baptiste Perrot, Françoise Pétrovitch, Miruna Radovici and STOL Collective.

Launched at the Arsenal, the headquarters of Société Générale Luxembourg, in autumn 2025, the Génération! cycle continued at the Opéra National de Bordeaux with Rejouer le réel, before travelling to Société Générale’s historic headquarters on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris. In and Out of Wonderland marks its final chapter in Bucharest. This travelling exhibition cycle explores how generational experiences shape contemporary artistic practices.
