Alan Charlton

1948

Great Britain

A British painter.

After completing his studies in 1972, Charlton became interested in minimalist art: all his paintings are grey monochromes. They are presented differently depending on the exhibition space and lighting. The rectangular shape demonstrates a deliberate simplicity.

Each tone of grey is obtained by painting a number of extremely fine coats. The eye perceives this transparency through the change in intensity of the grey, which acts as an indicator of light.
