The third bridge in Abidjan, Boulevard Mitterrand interchange OA1, Riviera district

2014

François Xavier GBRE

"After more than ten years of political crisis, Abidjan is undergoing a makeove. Throughtout the city, numerous construction sites reflect the reconstruction happening on the national level. The building of a new bridge specifically expresses the idea of a link between two river banks. The red dirt road outlines the future promised to those dancing here once again"

François-Xavier Gbré travels the world, flitting from fashion to portraits and from architecture to social commentary. He spent several years in Milan painting a social picture of multicultural Italy. He has been working on the concept of memory since 2009, recording forgotten spaces. As a mixed-race child bron to an immigrant father, he has always felt close to itinerant destinies, constently caught between to places. His photographs bear witness to the journeys and experiences of men. Gbré was awarded the second prize in the 2010 PhotoAfrica competition in Tarifa.
