Shai Kremer

Photography

100 x 127 cm

In his photographs in his series “Infected Landscape”, “some places are easily identifiable like training zones such as Chicago, a kind of mock town that served for several years as a training camp for Israeli troops. Others are more ambiguous. Only the titles allow one to locate the places geographically and politically.” Kremer reveals how each parcel of land is now “infected” by the tracks and dust of current conflict. The accumulation of ruins and reminiscences of military facilities are a major part of what now defines the Israeli landscape.

Born in 1974 and raised in Kibbutz Gaash, Israel.
Lives and works in Israel and New York.

Shai Kremer began his photographic work in 1999 when he was still a student in Tel Aviv. He continued while earning his MFA at the School of Visual Art in New York. Since then, he has produced hundreds of landscape photographs focused on Israel and New York, where he currently resides. In his work, he metaphorically profiles the transformation of the Israeli landscape over the years, decades, indeed centuries of successive migrations of civilisations through the area.
