Anne-Marie Haas

1915 - 2006

Belgium

Sculptor.

Haas studied science, graduating from the Paris School of Electricity in 1937. At the same time, she studied drawing at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in 1932.

She studied under the famous sculptor Zadkine in 1952 to 1953 and worked with stone with Del Debbio from 1954. Anne-Marie travelled often to Carrare in Italy to work with marble.

Her sculpture technique is traditional and features the classic elements of representation and pre-eminence of the subject. Femme, produced between 1963-1964 has traces of Egyptian Antiquity, with the head in profile but a frontal view of the body, and the posture of crossed hands and legs. The treatment and the colour of the marble recall the funereal art of the pharahons.
