Antoine la Boulaye (de)

1951

France

French painter.

Initially an artistic director in advertising and publishing until 1970, de la Boulaye then devoted his life to painting.
Up until the early 1990s, his work featured letters and signs as well as reoccurring figures that made up a repertoire of figurative shapes organised on light surfaces.

The canvas plays host to a range of values that cover or reveal subtle plays of writing.
His most recent paintings demonstrate a return to colour where his inspiration from Matisse and Picasso can be seen.

His paintings and sculptures are on display in New York, Paris, Lausanne, and Basel.
