Sculpture
The characters of Antoine de la Boulaye's bronze sculptures recall the figures that gradually disappeared from his paintings. The modelling technique accentuates the impression of spontaneity.
Antoine la Boulaye (de)
France
Born in 1951
French painter.
Initially an artistic director in advertising and publishing until 1970, de la Boulaye then devoted his life to painting.
Up until the early 1990s, his work featured letters and signs as well as reoccurring figures that made up a repertoire of figurative shapes organised on light surfaces.
The canvas plays host to a range of values that cover or reveal subtle plays of writing.
His most recent paintings demonstrate a return to colour where his inspiration from Matisse and Picasso can be seen.
His paintings and sculptures are on display in New York, Paris, Lausanne, and Basel.
