Painting
70 x 100
“Stilo” embodies the way Wilhelm Sasnal conceives landscapes as a space of distance and restraint. Stripped of any descriptive or narrative intent, the motif is reduced to a few clearly delineated chromatic zones, at the threshold of abstraction. The seascape, recurrent in his work, functions here as a surface of mental projection: sea and sky unfold as silent fields, devoid of a center. The sailboat, reduced to a simple sign, concentrates a minimal human presence, underscoring both its persistence and its erasure in the face of natural immensity.
Graduate of the Beaux-arts of Kraków, Wilhelm Sasnal is a Polish artist whose practice focuses primarily on painting, while also encompassing drawing, film, and illustration. His work draws on images from personal memory, collective history, and contemporary media, which he reduces, fragments, or neutralizes. Through an economy of means and fragmentary framing, the artist examines individual and collective memory, the representation of reality, and the zones of tension between intimacy and history.
