In the "Rugby" series, which was completed in 2003, Édouard Levé neutralises all the usual decorum, to focus solely on these strange postures worthy of a modern Pietà. The movements depicted mark an extreme tension, as if the dimension of the team effort was part of an immobile and strange time. The entire force of team spirit is magnified.

For this photographer and writer, words and images are invitations to slip into the absurd. The artist's photographs play on the notion of "Irrelevance", extracting individuals from their context and thereby removing their raison d'être. Scenes from everyday life or current news are reconstituted in a uniform, neutral decor. Objectivity and neutrality become synonymous with a disconcerting normality.
