L'INTERROGATOIRE

2017

François BARD

Painting

161 x 130 cm

In addition to their cinematographic composition andtheir pictorial qualities, François Bard’s works are remarkable for theunsettling atmosphere they create. Hidden behind their hoods, these youngstersplay a sort of hide-and-seek, refusing to reveal their personalities.Quasi-hyperrealist, these oils on canvas or paper show amazing refinement inthe textures of the clothes and skin tones.

"I like it when a human figuretriggers something in the onlooker," says François Bard. But neverthelesswithout imposing too much. Hence the fact that I often avoid faces - showingthe subjects’ backs and suggesting more than I actually describe. I try to findthe myth in the commonplace. It is almost a doctrine for my everydaylife."
