Louis Jacquot uses various shapes and materials to blur the borders between artworks and exhibition space, painting and installation. Here, the abstract lines and the shades of blue play on harmony and discrepancy to create a sense of ambiguity.

“Everything in the making of his paintings, from the iconographic sampling of studio scenes to the minimal situation in which he represents it through parallel perspectives, creates trouble between the represented object and the space in which it is displayed,” remarks the artist Dominique Figarella.

Born in 1994

Born in 1994, a graduate of the Beaux-Artsde Paris, Louis Jacquot creates formal and poetic paintings halfway between rough conceptualisation and pictorial looseness. Working between two artistic traditions – the one of modern abstract painting and the one of writing inspace and the spatialisation of artworks –, Jacquot swerves in constantback-and-forths between the production of paintings and their installation in the exhibition space, and shows that the supposed autonomy of the artwork in the exhibition space is irrelevant.

According to Louis Verret, “The totality and the integrity of the image’s cycle of production are questioned and slightly challenged to offer alternatives. This complete rereading makes for experimental gestures and freshness, the sidestep that gives amplitude.”
