Demand plays on the perception of the viewer, by taking the objects out of the three-dimensional world and placing them in the two dimensions of photography By using this technique, the artist is questioning representation, reality, documentation and the imaginary, transience and permanence.

German artist.

From 1987 to 1992, Demand studied at the Academies of Fine Arts in Munich and Düsseldorf. Thomas Demand is a sculptor whose works are presented only through photography. He builds and paints cardboard models, objects or buildings that he then photographs and later destroys. The colour photography of this work is the only remaining trace of the now virtual sculpture.

His work is on display in London, Brussels, Cologne, Munich, Paris, Amsterdam and many other cities.
