Otobong Nkanga’s drawings, installations, photographs,performances and sculptures in different ways examine the notion of landscapeand the value that is attached to natural resources. In her work, performancepermeates a variety of media and engenders works of all kinds (painting,drawing, photography, sculpture, installation and video), though all of themare linked to the themes of landscape and architecture.
Born in 1974 in Kano, Nigeria
Lives and Works in Antwerp, Belgium.
Otobong Nkanga is a sculptor and performer who began studying art at ObafemiAwolowo University in Ile-Ifé, Nigeria, and continued her education at theEcole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She was a resident at theRijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam before receiving her Mastersin Performing Arts from DasArts in Amsterdam in 2008.
