Papiers Ordinaires – Série1 Les Bouboys

Works on paper
200 x 145 cm
Since 2009, they have focused their work on the Papiers Ordinaires project. It is a figurative art piece – portraits centred on the theme of the melting pot of race and culture – and is a large-scale piece using only felt-tip pens. The entire project is composed of series. The sisters commence their study by exploring peoples of African descent, with those in the United States on one side (series 1 Les BouBoys), and those in Peru on the other side (series 2 Los Corazonegros). Each series projects the issue of identity in its plural form, and as a vast territory of mixed and shared culture.

The Chevalme sisters, alias “Le Quartier Général”, are twin-sister artists, graphic designers and illustrators, Elodie and Delphine. Respectively, they hold a Masters degree in Graphic Communication from ENSAAMA (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art, Paris), and a post-graduate degree in Plastic Arts from ENSAD (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Paris).
After completing their studies, they set up their own graphic studio where they designed the graphic identity of various concert venues in Paris. The quality of their creations rapidly won them the recognition of the events world, particularly in the black, urban hip-hop scene. Their style honours the technique of drawing by hand, and earned them a publication in Louis Bou’s Flying Graphics – a collection of flyers by European studios and graphic artists, published by Monsa. In parallel to their studio, they run art projects that delve into social and urban themes. Just like their duo, graphic art and art function side by side, and nurture each other throughout their development.
