Special commission made to Jean-Michel Othoniel

Societe Generale is proud to reveal the artwork commissioned to Jean-Michel Othoniel on the occasion of the construction of the new Basalte building, in La Defense business district.

At the end of their decision process, the Art acquisition Committee selected last autumn the French visual artist’s proposal to create a sculpture inspired by the new auction room. The committee’s choice was orientated by the will of creating a strong landmark to celebrate the construction of the new building. This acquisition will enrich the Group’s Collection which has focused on contemporary painting, sculpture and photography. The new sculpture is assigned to the entrance hall and will be installed in autumn 2014.

Jean-Michel Othoniel benefits an important visibility in his latest news. On February 28, was inaugurated in Aix-en-Provence his artwork La Rose des vents, in the natural belvedere of the Beisson estate. This artwork is part of the “creative boroughs” artistic program led by Marseille Cultural Capital 2013. From May 29 to November 2nd, 2014, a monumental installation by Othoniel will be set in the Hôtel-Dieu’s gardens, in Puy-en-Velay. Le Coeur de l’Hôtel-Dieu will be accompanied with an exhibition-event. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of Le Nôtre royal gardener, the landscaper Louis Benech and Jean-Michel Othoniel were selected to renovate the bosquet du Théâtre d’Eau of Versailles Estate.  The installation will be inaugurated in September 2014. A new artwork was commissioned by the Saint-Pierre cathedral of Angoulême, a new stained glass for the treasury, that will be finished in April 2015.
