Lydia Dona

Painting

78 x 109 cm

Acrylic and ink on paper

Dona’s work evokes lyrical abstraction and gestural painting (drippings), but shows a strict spatial organisation clearly seen in the straight lines that structure the painting.

Although her work is non-figurative, it nonetheless reflects New York through the graffiti, the drab industrial colours, the fading subway tones and the checkerboard plan of the city. His work presents traces, rather than images, of several pictorial movements and successive states of creation, all overlapping each other to create a kind of photograph depicting the artist's perception.
