Since 1985, his work has oriented itself essentially aroundthe immortalization of pine tree forests typical of Korea. The pine tree is aculturally significant tree in Korean culture as it's considered a symbol oflongevity. According to him, "pine trees are symbols of the souls of theKorean people." Bae sees in a pine tree a contact between the sky and theearth. It succeeds at freezing on paper all the drama and magic of thismythical place and the vital energy of the trees in order to resituate them inintense meditation.
Bae Bien-U was born in 1950 in Yeosu (South Korea). He livesand works in Seoul, South Korea.
Bae has been practicing photography since the 1970. Today,he is undeniably Korea’s greatest photographer. Renowned the world over, hisworks speak a universal language, most often reflecting the Korean people’spreoccupation with living in harmony with nature.
