Ship of hools
2007
Karsten Konrad
Sculpture
131 x 91 x 82 cm
Like a house of cards about to collapse, Konrad’s meticulously constructed works betray their vulnerability. Take this ship worthy of a postmodern Hieronymus Bosch, a drunken boat at risk of tipping over comparable to Frank Gehry or Peter Eisenman’s dizzying architecture that confuses our perception of forms and their functions.

Born in 1962
Karsten Konrad studied sculpture at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and at the Royal College of Art in London. He has lived ans worked in Berlin since 1993.
Konrad's sculptures always take as their strarting point the confrontation of the artist with the architecture surrounding us, as wellas with the great artistic movements of the twentieth century.
For his sculptures, he use fibreboard elements with a PVC (formica) surface, cut first into regular pieces before being transformed into a new ensemble.
