Gilles Barbier challenges reality and give ushis take on the world via an enigmatic and absurd universe: he places us in afictional world which he feels gives meaning to reality. The ambivalent natureof his work and the juxtaposition of ideas and interactions destabilise theviewer, and this sensation is heightened by the absence of all points ofreference in the photographs, through the interplay of volumes, depths,reflections and superposing. Gilles Barbier presents us with a digital universewhere reality is not real but rather a simulation of reality.
Resolutely frolicsome, GillesBarbier’s digital universe confounds the spectator through the play of volumes,reflections, depths of field and superposition. Here, a New York water towerturns into a rocket.

Gilles Barbier s'exprime dans la sculpture, l'image, le dessin, réalise des installations et c'est avec un humour décapant qu'il met en place un travail qu'il ne définit ni comme critique, ni comme "peinture du monde", ni comme problématique mais comme autant de fictions. Il alimente en textes et en outils de réflexion un flux continu de dessins et d'images.
Giles Barbier expose son travail depuis 1995 en France, en Allemagne, aux Pays-bas ou encore en Autriche et aux Etats-Unis. Il a notamment été nominé pour le prix Marcel Duchamp en 2005.
