Takeo Adachi

Works on paper

40 x 120 cm

Diptych, pencil on paper

This diptych, Pierre, Lumières (Stone, Lights) shows exemplary subtlety and finesse, reflecting the irresistible Japanese Zen gardens and their apparent simplicity.
The natural sources (stone, sand, lighting) are carefully put into place, creating a space for meditation and
inner peace.
Takeo Adachi
France
Born in 1945
Trained in Kyoto and the United States, Takeo Adachi decided to settle permanently in Paris in 1988. Revisiting the age-old technique of calligraphy and the mineral vernacular of the Zen garden, he acted as the mediator between traditional Japanese painting and contemporary art. With recurrent motifs such as stone and rope, his pared-down style is derived from asceticism and a metaphysical quest. The ensuing immersion in mental landscapes is also an invitation to meditation.
