IRON MAIDEN 4

2007

Morgane Tschiember

Sculpture

270 x 236 x 60 cm

2 sheets of lacquered aluminium

With the sensual metallic curves in this work from the Iron Maiden series, Morgane Tschiember blurs the border between painting and volume. Borrowing a classic theme from art history (portrait of a young woman), she revamps it by spraying paint on car bodywork, a project undertaken in a Cherbourg shipyard. Her playful intent is also manifest in the contrast she has introduced between the twisting sheet of aluminium that seems on the verge of flying away and the heaviness of the metal usually reserved for industrial purposes.
