Confectionner une guirlande 5
2021
Idir DAVAINE
Painting
195 x 150 cm
Photography is a crucial tool for Idir Davaine: he frequently takes snapshots of his daily surroundings to reference them later in his acrylic paintings. Focusing on the line, the shape, and the colour, he breaks up and rearranges elements from mountains, forests, and nature to create abstract coloured scenes.
In Confectionner une guirlande 5,sections of bright colours sketch a purposely opaque scene. Thus symbols and signs appear like successive strata. Overlaid, they’re inspired by multiple sources: geology, cosmology, fairy tales, the plant kingdom, ornamentation, and the history of painting itself…
Idir Davaine graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2017. He chose the landscape as the starting point of his artistic reflection. For years, he drew and painted from nature and afterwards confronted these works with codification processes. Nowadays, photography is a crucial tool for Davaine: he frequently takes snapshots of his daily surroundings to reference them later in his acrylic paintings.
“I like to think that landscapes and the details I use are like sheet music that the viewer needs to learn to decrypt, that each of them holds another possible reading – not as obvious, not as divided – of reality,” explains the artist.
