Stéphane Dafflon

Painting

150 x 250 cm

Acrylic on canvas

The letters and figures in the cryptic, cabalistic titles of Stéphane Dafflon’s works merely indicate the medium and order in which they were executed. “AST” in this corner painting thus means acrylique sur toile (acrylic on canvas), “PM” stands for peinture murale (mural painting), while his sculptures are quite simply numbered chronologically from 001.
Stéphane Dafflon
Born in 1972
Né à Neyruz, Suisse.
Vit et travaille à Paris et Lausanne.

Though heir to the tradition of abstract painting, Stéphane Dafflon’s attitude towards it may be defined as rebellious. Working on a computer screen—his indispensable tool—he revises and reinterprets the visual language of his predecessors through the vocabulary of industrial design. Incorporating contemporary technology into his canvasses, murals and sculptures made of wood, Plexiglas or stainless steel, he adapts the processes initiated by conceptual art to attain a highly individual form of Pop Abstraction.
