Trois axes, trois sphères (2014) is a balancing act of linesand spheres.
The geometricalconstruction is reminiscent of a satellite and embodies the memory of ElLissitzky's Prouns, "switching stations" born of the spatialexperiences of abstract painting.
In the tradition of Duchamp and Mondrian, Mathieu Mercier wants to find andreveal the beauty in the objects of everyday life. His multiple talents as apainter, sculptor, architect and director have given him the opportunity towork with mass consumer objects which we all know, but which are now perceivedin an aesthetic and artistic way.
Mathieu Mercier won the Prix MarcelDuchamp in 2003. This was followed by the “Le Pavillon 2” exhibition at thePompidou Centre. His body of work was then shown at the Musée d’art moderne dela ville de Paris/ARC in 2007 and at the Nuremberg Kunsthalle in 2008.
Lives and works in Paris.
Mathieu Mercier put on an exhibition at the Paris Museum of Modern Art in 2007. In 2003, he was awarded the Marcel Duchamp prize.
The valueof objects and their relationships with architecture and design is a constanttheme in Mathieu Mercier's work and he frequently uses common household objectsand fixtures that have economic or practical value. Mathieu Mercier's work is acritical eye on society, intended to question the relationship between objectand modernity. What is an object's place in contemporary aesthetics?
