Djoka Ivackovic

1930 - 2012

Yugoslavia

Painter.

After graduating from the Belgrade School of Architecture, Ivackovic moved to Paris in 1962. His training gave him a subtle mastery of construction that can be seen in his works. As a lyrical abstraction painter, he fully explored the movement’s characteristics. His work contains no figures or interpretable signs, only imagination.

He paints only on square shapes; the white background is visible and each painting is completed in one sitting. These precise and intangible methods are the only geometry imposed by the artist. They isolate the painting and reinforce the emotion it carries.
