In Romania, BRD supports emerging talents

In Bucharest, Romania, BDR Scena9, a cultural centre dedicated to contemporary culture, is reopening to the public. Founded by BRD – Groupe Societe Generale, it is displaying a new exhibition, “Artists Rooms”, dedicated to independent Romanian artists.

“Artists Rooms” was born in a difficult historical context: the exhibition originates from a financing program set up by Fondation9, the cultural foundation of BRD dedicated to emerging artists, during the confinement, to support artistic creation. Its goal was to support artists, especially upcoming ones, put in a difficult position by the closing of museums, galleries, and other cultural spaces. A call for applications has been launched: 44 artists and 37 projects, both solo and collective, thus benefited from financing. It supported the creation and adaptation of their work to the constraints imposed by the pandemic by getting in touch with their public through the Internet. First displayed on the Foundation website, since the end of lockdown and until the end of July, a selection of 8 pieces is presented to the public in the space of the Residence.

Along with visual artists, musicians and anthropologists created multimedia projects, especially documentaries questioning past, present, and future. Whether they chose to document the lockdown period or to explore new territories, the artworks of “Artists Rooms” are tokens of a bountiful Romanian art scene that is definitely looking towards the future.
