WHITE WIND

2013

SUSUMU SHINGU

Sculpture

Over the past forty years, Susumu Shingu has created and installed monumental sculptures brought to life by wind, water and gravity around the world. Shingu affirms in all of his work that submission to the natural and fundamental rhythms of life is necessary to rediscover the harmony between our deepest selves and the planet to ensure their continued vitality.

The artist has collaborated at different times withrenowned architects including Renzo Piano and Tadao Ando, with the stylistIssey Miyake and with choreographer Jiri Kylian.

The experience, together with an educational programmefor children, revealed the intrinsic function of the sculptures at both theenvironmental level and for local populations.

It was shown at the Musée du Louvre inParis on 24 January 2013 and it won the Prix du Jury at the 32nd FestivalInternational du Film sur l’Art of Montréal in March 2014.
