In her most famous series, Evgenia Arbugaeva follows Tanya, a girl living in Tiksi and whose interests and sense of adventure resemble those of Evgenia at that age and draws inspiration from Soviet cartoons. To her “These books are beautiful and have a deep meaning. (…) Their images convey a feeling of wonder and naïve idealism that always captivated me.” This series received the Magnum Emergency Fund grant in 2002 and the Leica Oskar Barnack award in 2013. In March 2013, she was commissioned to do a photo reportage for National Geographic, Mammoth Tusk Hunter, Siberia.

Born in 1985
Evgenia Arbugaeva lived until she was 8 in the small city of Tiksi, near the Laptev sea. After completing art administration studies in the International University of Moscow, she settled in New York where she attended the documentary photography course in the International Center of Photography.
