Portrait d'une jeune musicienne jouant de la guitare
2020
Sophia FASSI
Painting
80 x 80 cm
In "Portrait d’une jeune musicienne jouant de la guitare", a character stands out against a dark, neutral backdrop. Painted in strong, solid colours, the musician looks intensely focused on her instrument, herself an artist absorbed in her work. Her face emerges brightly from cast shadows. Both steadily here and absent to the world, caught in action or in a moment of reflection, she invites contemplation and daydreaming. With a limited palette and bold contrasts, playing with the blurriness of shapes and the precision of expression, Sophia Fassi paradoxically displays a soft, empathetic outlook that creates a sense of intimacy.
Born in 1992 in Paris, France.
After a first year spent experimenting with different techniques when she enrolled at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, Sophia Fassi focused on painting and drawing, working from nature, and assisting painter Léonard Combier in his work during an internship. She graduated from the school, where classes by James Bloedé and François René Martin made a crucial impression on her, in 2020, and now lives and works in Paris. Her works areoften intimate portraits of relatives or strangers made in oil paints from photographs. The sharpness of the pose highlights the poetry of the moment shared between the artist and her subject. She also paints bigger compositions where plenty of characters with striking expressions are in motion, carefully elaborated together and forming a coherent picture.
