Marc DESGRANDCHAMPS

Works on paper

154,5 × 124 cm

Original lithograph on Archesvellum 400g 154.5 x 124 cm. 25 copies.

It has been said that MarcDesgrandchamps’ works represent liquid ghosts (Richard Leydier). Desgrandchampspeoples his great landscapes with the bluish hues of transparent figuresthrough which the objects behind them materialize. This evanescence is thepoetic key in his work. This ethereal quality aqueously flows into areas oflight, paint drips. A world on the verge of disappearing. The dream-like aspectis so strong it makes it possible to get lost in a Desgrandchamps painting orengraving.

This lithograph was printedin a monumental format similar to his gouaches. Inspired by a photograph by theEnglishman Eadweard Muybridge (1830-1904), a female figure stands on tiptoedominating a mountain landscape, a reference to the artist’s Savoyard origins

Born in 1960

Born in 1960 in Sallanches (F). Lives and works in Lyon (F).

Since the beginning of the 1980s, Marc Desgrandchamps hasbeen building works that are out of the ordinary. His work is representative ofhis beginnings (you can see the influence of founding painters of modern art, from Malevitch to Beckmann) and portrays subjects that are isolated and oftenin a time of crisis. Over the years, his work has evolved and become morecomplex, focusing particularly on landscapes with people. Bathing women, beach scenes, and towelsfloating in the breeze are all recurring themes in his work.
