This painting was done in the 1970s and belongs to a general movement of reflection on the status of art and its components. Here, the artist has concentrated on colour: the fine lines arranged on the surface are in harmony with the hidden but glowing colour on the canvas, and the chromatic intensity appears to bring it to life.
Jean-Michel Meurice
France
Born in 1938
French painter.

Alongside his work as a painter, Meurice also undertook a number of audiovisual projects. His recent work is based on a single, repeated motif: the imprint of a leaf, which he modifies to the point of leaving it unrecognisable. The repetition appears to widen the space of perception.
