Valérie Jouve
Photography
60 x 477 cm
Photographer and film-maker, Valérie Jouve belongs to a new generation of young artists in France who have bid farewell to their country's great humanistic tradition of photo reporting while still retaining certain key elements. She photographs landscapes, and above all cityscapes. Her speciality is to take photographs of men and women in movement. Landscapes and portraits, two classical themes in painting and photography, are combined in such a way as to create a highly choreographed scene against a dense urban backdrop. This sociological approach informs and adds depth to the representation and staging of Jouve's works. Her photographs attempt to reflect the city as space in which to "live" together, a city in constant movement, in constant beat and constantly evolving.
