ERIC BAUDART
Works on paper
100 x 130 x 15 cm
Graphpaper, wood, Plexiglas
In the Graph Paper series, Eric Baudart hasused a craft knife to horizontally and vertically trace each line of the graphpaper over several weeks, until the cardboard on which the paper is mountedappears. Through this simple action on a neutral technical surface, a kind ofmapping or landscape emerges, which invites the viewer to navigate in thissurface that the eye cannot memorize. Eric Baudart describes the squares ofgraph paper as cut-outs like pixels forming an image.
Having graduated in 2002 from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris (workshop of Jean-Marc Bustamante), Éric Baudart previously trained at Sydney College of Art, Australia (2000). In fact, the work of the artist forms a parody of the virtual world in which we live, where what is shown to us is only illusion and simulation. Therefore, the major thrust of his artistic research is focused around the production and appearance of the image in contemporary reality transformed by the new technologies of communication and information.
