Jérôme BOREL

1958

France

Jérôme Borel began painting at a very young age during a long period of recuperation following a traffic accident. It was at that point that he decided to make painting his life’s work. He created his portfolio as a self-taught artist, spending a period of time at the Université de Montréal in Québec to learn more about the history of modern and contemporary art.

Jérôme Borel explained, “I paint abstract works with figurative motifs, each of which is a possible response to the questions our very existence poses”. Explosions of colour and symbolic figures burst forth from his highly theatrical creations. His work features fugitive or spectral figures, or, on the contrary, highly realistic figures representing allegories, still life, and imagined landscapes.
