Benjamin SABATIER
1977
France
An artist of action, Benjamin Sabatier's social approach to art focuses on the importance of "matter" and the involvement of the person viewing the work. Performance, painting, sculpture, installation, video - the medium is of little importance - he always chooses whichever medium best creates meaning. The paradoxical theoretical influence of Keith Haring and the "Support/Surface" group on his work form a singular, explosive cocktail.
The artist likes to say that his work "beats about the bush", meaning that he prefers to remain at the periphery, the better to question what is at the centre.
